Description
The film deals with the story of Emperor Todd Spingo who rearranges things where he sees Marge Nelson and uses a giant magnet, and kidnapped her and her husband, Dick. He tries to make her his bride before exploding the earth. In those moments, things turn completely where Dick starts relaunching the episodes of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers in order to save Marge, and save everyone around him before it is too late.

This movie came out when I was 13. I never saw it until now (2020). I had incorrectly remembered the male lead being Tom Arnold but turns out it was Jeffrey Jones. With a few tweaks this could have very easily been a pretty accurate Super Mario Bros movie. The Dad is even chased around an underground sewer full of really large pipes by monster that look almost exactly like Little Goobas and the Mom is kidnapped by the villain and forced to wear a pink dress that looks very much like what Princess Peach (or as my generation once called her, Princess Toadstool) wears in the Mario Games. There are also bulldog headed soldiers that look like Moblins from Legend of Zelda. The theatrical Mario Movie came out a mere year after this film and you could almost imagine that this movie was adapted from some pre-existing, alternative Mario Bros script didn't make the cut. Anyway, imagine when you're watching this, that you're watching a Mario movie. Also, when watching Career Opportunities, imagine that Jennifer Connelly's character is meant to be Veronica from Archie and when watching Coming to America, imagine that Eddie Murphy is supposed to be The Black Panther from Marvel Comics; you'll have an even more funner time!
